In 2009, the Alameda County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit created a Non-profit Association to further the K-9 Units commitment to providing the community with a safer County to live in. Through the selling of items, fundraisers, and donations, the ACSO K-9 Unit will be able to purchase items otherwise not available to them. Monies in the past have been collected and saved with the intentions of purchasing bullet proof vest for the K-9's. Each of these vest’s are custom made and a true necessity for each dog, as it encounters possible fatal missions throughout the course of its career.  Additional donated monies will be used to pay for retired K-9 medical costs and eventual burial costs which include the burial itself and a headstone. Our loyal partners play a very large part in keeping our community and officers safe. Our K-9 partners are an integral part of our police force and in their off-duty time, are a part of our families. The ACSO K-9 Association believes our K-9 partners be honored appropriately at their time of passing. The association will also assist in providing veterinarian benefits to retired K-9's. It is with the help of our community that our K-9 partners will excel, succeed and continue to provide superb service.
