Training Site Program
All of the K-9 Teams also participate in ongoing maintenance training. Maintenance training is usually several times per month, where the dogs are trained in obedience, area searches; building searches, suspect apprehension and narcotics detection. Having new training locations is one of the most important parts of a successful K-9 Unit.
Dogs are very smart and in order to make training as beneficial as possible we are constantly looking for new buildings, locations and scenarios to challenge the dogs and the handlers.
Throughout the day K9 handlers often come in contact with vacant buildings residences and other structures that are ideal locations for crime including burglaries, vandalism, theft and illegal occupancy. These sorts of locations are ideal training venues for our maintenance training day.
By participating in our training program you will know that not only are you a vital part in the training and development of the police K9’s that protect your community, but you are also creating a police presence at your vacant building or property, therefore reducing the likelihood a criminal would choose to target your location.
Being that we are constantly deploying our dogs in variety of locations and environments we are not just looking for vacant buildings, but any number of locations. We welcome private residents, homeowners associations, neighborhood watch groups and business owners to contact us if they wish to donate the use of their property for our training.
We are also working on signs to post at participating locations to let others know that the K9 unit trains on your property. This sign is our way of saying thank you and also let any potential criminals know that we are often there.
Thank you for your support in the development and training of our dogs. Please contact us if you have any questions or would like more information.
